"When pain persists and answers are missing, the problem is rarely the tissue alone — it is the system that governs healing."

- Dr. Sean Altman

Dr. Sean Altman is a Functional Medicine Doctor at Reverse Time Wellness in Stamford. His work is centered on helping patients understand the true root causes of pain, injury, movement dysfunction, and poor recovery — not just treating symptoms or reacting to imaging findings alone.

Dr. Altman developed his clinical approach around the concept of Orthopedic Functional Medicine, a model that combines advanced orthopedic evaluation with the root-cause thinking of functional medicine. Rather than looking at the body as a collection of isolated joints, muscles, or diagnoses, he evaluates how the entire system is functioning: tissue quality, movement patterns, strength, stability, inflammation, recovery capacity, biomechanics, and the deeper factors that may be preventing the body from healing properly.

Many patients come to Dr. Altman after being told that their pain is “just arthritis,” “probably tendonitis,” “likely sciatica,” or simply the result of a bulging disc or tear seen on imaging. While those findings may be part of the story, they are often not the whole diagnosis. Dr. Altman’s goal is to look beyond the label and identify why the problem developed, why it has not resolved, and what can be done to help restore function more completely.

His Orthopedic Functional Medicine Evaluations involve a detailed orthopedic and patient history, movement assessment, strength testing, manual examination, diagnostic ultrasound, and a careful review of prior imaging or medical records. This allows him to create highly individualized treatment strategies that address both the painful area and the broader system contributing to the problem.

At Reverse Time Wellness, Dr. Altman’s care integrates naturally with the clinic’s focus on longevity, mobility, regenerative wellness, and non-invasive treatment options. His treatment approach includes a careful selection of advanced manual therapy, corrective exercise, progressive strengthening, movement retraining, shockwave therapy, laser therapy, PEMF, microcurrent, SoftWave therapy, and other regenerative or energy-based technologies when appropriate. The goal is not simply temporary pain relief — it is to help patients restore mobility, improve performance, support healing, and avoid unnecessary procedures whenever possible.

Dr. Altman is also the developer of AltPoint™, an ultrasound-guided electrolysis (USGET) treatment designed to precisely target injured orthopedic tissues and support a focused tissue-repair response. His work with AltPoint™ reflects his larger mission: to combine advanced imaging, precise treatment, and whole-person clinical reasoning to help patients access more effective options before considering invasive procedures.

His philosophy is simple: pain is information, not just something to silence. Imaging is useful, but it does not always tell the full story. And healing requires understanding the person, the tissue, the movement system, and the biology behind the problem.

Through Orthopedic Functional Medicine, Dr. Altman helps patients move beyond short-term symptom management and toward lasting restoration, resilience, and vitality. Whether someone is recovering from an injury, trying to avoid surgery, dealing with chronic pain, or looking to improve long-term orthopedic health, his mission is to help each patient understand their body more clearly and create a personalized path back to better function.
